About Mr. Duez:
The exceptions!
Mr. Duez grew up in Harrison City, PA and attended Penn-Trafford High School. Home of the mighty Warriors! There he played football, baseball and ran track. Mr. Duez was a decent student, but with the assistance of his counselor decided to enroll in Honors US History and Honors English his junior year. There was no such thing as Advanced Placement in those days and there were very few honors classes of any kind at the school. Although challenged in a truly deep way, he was able to succeed and gain the confidence needed to know that he could make it in college. In May 1988 Mr. Duez graduated from high school and moved on to Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA.

In 1992 Mr. Duez graduated with a secondary education, political science and history major. While at Juniata, he was a two year starter at outside linebacker on the JC football squad and earned three varsity letters. In baseball Mr. Duez lettered four times and was on two conference championship teams. He also worked at the college radio station doing a nightly sports report and announced college basketball games for the school radio station.

His wife Norma also teaches at AHS - AP and Level Economics to seniors. They met while in college and came to Houston in 1994 beginning their teaching careers in Galena Park ISD.

Mr. Duez began his career in education as a sixth grade World Cultures teacher and coach of football, basketball and track at North Shore Middle School. In 1997 he accepted a position as the Instructional Technology Specialist for the district.

He left education in 1999 and began working at American General and then moved on to Dynegy and later, Lyondell working in the Information Technology field. In 2004, he decided to come back home to teaching and accepted a World History position with Humble High School.

Wonder Twin powers, activate!
In 2006, Mr. Duez was honored as the first ever Teacher of the Year at Atascocita High School. It was quite an amazing year opening a new school and working with a great faculty and staff. The school is a special place to work.
Every day is an adventure and I hope this website can help students and their parents have a link into the classroom from home. Communication is a big key to motivating students and reminding them of the path needed for success.
Mr. and Mrs. Duez live in nearby Kingwood and have a wonderful son named Aidan. They also have a dog named Sydney and cat named Suki
Aidan with swim awards from summer of 2016.

Sydney - Named for Sidney Crosby Captain of the NHL Pittsburgh Penguins.
Suki - means "Love" in Japanese.
Mr. Duez was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in January of 2011. It is a disease he shares with his sister and aunt. One person every hour is diagnosed with MS, but it is a very rare disease of the brain and central nervous system. Although MS has been a challenge, it has taught him to appreciate life in many ways.

As Mr. Duez always says, "DFTBA: Don't Forget To Be Awesome!" Some days he feels a great deal less than awesome, but he has to remember to reach deep down inside and bring out his very best.
